How to save money when planning a wedding

Planning a wedding is a serious and expensive thing. Every corner you take there is more money to spend and many couples find themselves in a spiral of unplanned expenses. Going way over the wedding budget can cause quarrels and unnecessary tension. Here are our top wedding planning money-saving tips.
 
Follow these easy steps to make sure this does not happen to you!

 

 
Start with a budget.

The most important thing is to set a budget and to try to stick to it. it is not going to be easy, but you must try in order to be in control.
Take a note pad and list all the things you’ll need and then all the things you guess you’ll need and then go online and see everything you didn’t know you needed to pay for but you probably will.
Give an estimate and leave a few hundred dollars aside for “backup”.

 

Second, you will need to start cutting expenses:

Plan your wedding at least a year ahead before prices go up.
Rent jewelry instead of buying them.
Get married on a Sunday or Friday.
Check venues online and ask for the quote so you’ll know if it’s in your price range before seeing it.
Find one location for the guest housing and the venue to cut on transportation or have your reception in a fancy restaurant where you only must pay for food and drinks.
And last, switch from a sit-down meal to an all buffet and cut on the kid’s menu, they will be happy with some fries and nuggets.  

 

Third, Leverage relationships.

Choose a venue that doesn’t require you to use their vendors and find yourself some cheaper options by going to business you know personally.
Use family and friends to help you with special DIY décor
Get distant family or neighbors with a talent or private business to help you make food/drinks stations or to hook you up with a DJ and save money on staff.
If you can have the entire wedding on familiar grounds like a friend’s house with a nice back garden or the family church.

 

Then, Go minimal!

Don’t print and use the power of online messaging and websites. There is also no need for printed menus, escrow card and programs, use DIY decorated banners and wooden signs instead.
Don’t spread your money on flower arrangement and go for one big “wow moment” by making one gorgeous centerpiece.
No need to set up a whole picture booth, instead pull a table with some props and have a Polaroid stand!
Say no to all the extra offers you’ll get from your vendors and suppliers, even if you think it’s a good deal you don’t need it.
