5 REASONS YOU NEED YOUR WEDDING SHOES AT YOUR DRESS FITTINGS

Wedding dress fittings can be one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning for the bride to be. But there are so many things to remember it can also be really confusing, which is why in our beginner’s guide to wedding dress fittings we talked you through every step of the process. During this, we mentioned that you really do need to have your wedding shoes with you at every single fitting. If you weren’t sure why we said that, here are 5 reasons why you need your shoes at your dress fittings.

SO YOUR DRESS IS THE RIGHT LENGTH

Once you have chosen your perfect wedding dress, you will need to go through a few fittings to make sure it, well, fits! If you’re not sure what that entails, make sure you read our beginners guide to wedding dress fittings. Part of making sure your dress fits properly is assessing the length, so that you don’t end up tripping over it all day. If you don’t have your wedding shoes with you at the fitting, your dress is likely to either end up too long, or too short. By wearing your shoes, your dress can be cut and hemmed at exactly the right length to ensure it’s comfortable and out of the way.

TO MAKE SURE THEY MATCH

If you’ve bought your wedding shoes from anywhere that wasn’t your dress store (which is fairly common), you need to make sure they match your dress. By bringing them with you to your fittings, you can make sure that the fabric, colour and decorations all match your dress. After all, if you buy a dress in pure white and your shoes are off-white, they will clash and look dirty even if they haven’t been worn. So instead of finding out on your wedding day, make sure you bring them ahead and leave yourself time to find some new ones if they don’t match!

TO WEAR THEM IN

Wedding shoes are just like normal court shoes – which means they need some wearing in! one of the biggest mistakes every bride makes is to wear their shoes properly for the first time on their wedding day. While this does preserve them nicely, it also means that your shows are likely to be hard and stiff – a recipe for blisters and sore feet! By wearing your wedding shoes to your fittings and around the house, you break them in enough to ensure that your feet aren’t aching by the reception.

CHECK THE HEEL HEIGHT

If you don’t wear heels a lot, now is the perfect time to figure out what you can and can’t cope with. Most women will prefer to wear heels on their wedding day, even if they don’t wear them normally. Wearing your shoes while trying on your dress gives you a sense of how the dress will fit and flow on the day. You will know fairly quickly whether your heels are too high, and finding this out at your fitting leaves you plenty of time to switch them out for a shorter heel.

TO MAKE SURE THE DRESS FITS

As we mentioned in our previous article, a simple switch in underwear or shoes before the big day can mean your dress doesn’t fit properly. For your shoes, it’s not just about the length of the skirt. You might have noticed this in the past, but the type of shoes you are wearing has a huge effect on your posture. When you wear heels, your head will automatically tilt back slightly, and your shoulder blades will open up. Your spine straightens and your weight balance shifts in your hips. All of this adds up to a significant change in fit around your bust, waist and hips.
